I've been an avid reader for many years, and I really enjoy reading a mix of fiction and non-fiction. I have kept a book journal of my reading since I was a teenager, and it's great to look back on my thoughts and impressions. However, my journal is now filled, and over the last 2 years, I have missed keeping track of the books I have read and enjoyed. I miss not having a record of my thoughts on my reading.
Also, I have been blessed to be a part of a great book club in my home town of Kleinburg. A group of great women meet once a month to discuss a predetermined book for a couple of hours. While the books have brought us together, our meetings have resulted in great friendships, and an overall enriched life because of these strong connections. Books make my life better is so many dynamic ways.
Then it suddenly occurred to me...Join the 21st century and get with it! Why not blog about my readings, and keep an on-line record of the books. After all, I have (often) started to read the same book for the second time without realizing it. (This happens with movies a lot too.) Maybe this way I can keep a record of my reading over the next few years. I'd like to be able to look back and see what my thoughts are given my life's circumstances at the time.
I have also been motivated lately to read more because I am so disappointed in the standards that have been set (or not set) with television programming. I can't stand reality TV and if I see another dysfunctional family sitcom with an inane laugh track, I think I might go postal.
Now, given that I'm in a book club, I will, no doubt, blog on the monthly book. I might even refer to my book club's over all impressions. But I want to make clear that my blog represents only my thoughts and impressions, and I will make every effort to only express my views. Explicitly put, I won't specifically "out" anyone else's thoughts or impressions, just share my own ideas (but I welcome any comments along the way!)
So that's it, it's official. What Kinda Book!?! is my space to ramble on about the books I'm reading. I'd like to read a lot more than I have been, and maybe the blogging experience will reinforce this goal. Let's see!
Claire! Great idea!
